4 Month Update: Baby Edition

So Cooper turned 4 months old and he is getting so big. I feel like he has grown so much in the last two weeks or so. He is definitely starting to look more like a "baby" compare to a newborn. He is a lot "fuller" looking. I am so curious as to how much he weighs but we haven't had a doctors appointment in the last month so he hasn't been weighed since our 3 month update.

In terms of his development in the last month, he started laughing on January 20, 2015 and he laughs more and more each day. Of course the first thing he laughed at was daddy's fart sounds...now he also laughs a lot when mom clucks like a chicken around the kitchen. We love to sing "Old McDonald" and sometimes I will cluck around the kitchen which he seems to enjoy.

He is slowly beginning to enjoy tummy time. Up until now he only liked to be on his stomach when he laid on my chest while he slept and he hated being on his tummy during playtime. However, I try to put him on his tummy during playtime a bit each day and then I change his position if he starts to fuss. At first he would fuss right away but now he seems content for a few minutes at a time. During the last week or so he started to lift his head to about 90 degrees when he is put on his tummy which is a huge improvement. The first time he did this was at gymnastics playgroup when he was looking at another kid crawling by. However, he has also done it a couple times at home since then.

He is also able to sit up by himself for about 10 seconds or so but only if I prop him forward a lot. Mitch wasn't too impressed when I showed him and he told Cooper to "sit up straighter". Haha! Daddy is tough!

Cooper went swimming for the first time a couple weeks ago and he was really calm but I was expecting him to be more excited! He didn't cry at all (even when he was quickly dunked underwater)...I guess he has daddy's temperament...cool as a cucumber!

Cooper also had his first gymnastics baby playgroup. It was a drop in class and babies are free to explore the equipment and toys but there is no instruction. We tried out the trampoline, rings, and slide but his favourite things were the tambourine and this half-moon apparatus that he can rock on. He just liked to lay on it and have us rock him.

He is still in 3-6 month clothing and they seem to fit well. However, I think we may need to go up a size in his cloth diapers. We currently use Bummis prefolds in the infant size which is suppose to fit 7-20 lbs. I don't think he is close to 20 lbs. yet but they seem to be getting a bit tight. Plus, he is pretty squirmy during diaper changes. I think I will order the next size up (15-40 lbs.). I also ordered a bunch of bumGenius one-size pocket diapers. These diapers are a lot more like disposables and they are pretty similar to the Applecheeks diapers but I tested them out on Cooper and they don't leak. I really like them and they are a lot easier for babysitters to use if we were to get someone to watch Cooper for a bit. I ordered 14 diapers, which is about 1/2 a stash, and then I will order some bigger Bummis prefolds to complete our stash.

Here are some pictures of Cooper the first time we took him swimming and at his first gymnastics playgroup.
