Blog Makeover

I just wanted to update you and let you know that my blog will be undergoing a makeover starting now.

When I first started this blog 3 years ago, it was focused on my pregnancy. After I gave birth, it slowly lost focus. I am hoping to get back to a regular schedule. I plan to post every Monday and Friday. These posts will focus on various topics such as parenting, travelling, and health related topics such as, essential oils.

If you have any ideas of topics you want me to cover, please let me know!

Happy 2017 and a bit of an update

It has been so long since I last updated. Fist things first, Cooper is getting really big. He is now over two (28 months) and is speaking so clearly now. He LOVES to read and has started to really like Thomas the Train. He loves daycare and loves going to the library. He also likes going to gymnastics (drop-in, open gym), cosmic adventures, sledding in the winter and going swimming. We have been on a couple trips in the last 9 months or so. We went to Bermuda last June, Fort Lauderdale last September, and we just got back from Dominican Republic last week. We are planning to go to Niagara Falls for my dad's 60th Birthday in May, and then go to Hawaii again for 5-6 weeks in December 2017.

As for me I have really started to get back into fitness full force. I ran a 5km race in January and I have already registered for a few more races this year. I am really amping up my gym workouts as well and I really want 2017 to be my healthiest year yet. Aside from when I was on vacation, I am trying to eat healthier (lots of fruits & veggies). I am also incorporating my morning shakes again and I have most recently added essential oils to my health regime.

I have fallen in love with Doterra essential oils. A friend from high school had mentioned them a few times in the last couple of years and I was interested but I never really followed through on learning more. I dapped a bit in essential oils several years ago but I never really reaped the benifits because I wasn't using high grade, pure, essential oils.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, this friend invited me to a Doterra meeting where high level executives and doctors spoke about the oils and they gave away samples etc. Since I was already so interested in the oils even before ever attending this meeting, I decided to try some out and I have been amazed at how well they work.

The day after recieving my oils in the mail, Cooper came down with Hand Foot Mouth disease (HFM) and he had blisters around his mouth. I decided to try some "On Guard" oil on the blisters and they cleared up overnight. When he had HFM last year, it lasted 5 days so this was such a relief since we were set to leave on our Dominican trip in two days.

My next big test for the effectiveness of essential oils came when I got home from Dominican last weekend. While in DR I developed pink eye and it flared up a lot the day I got home. My eyes were extremely red, goopy, and painful. I read about how the comibination of lavender oil and tea tree oil can cure pink eye so I tried it. The first day I only applied the mixture 3 times and it helped instantly, but the pain sometimes came back within an hour. In hind sight, I should have applied the mixture several more times that day. The next day, I applied it 6-8 times and it was very effective. By the 3rd day, the improvement was significant and the mixture was only needed 3 times and then it was completely gone by the 4th day.

While I have drug benefits through work and could get partially reimbursed for antibiotics, I really like to avoid using them unless they are absolutely necessary. Plus when you have pinkeye (at least as severe as mine) you cannot drive to the doctors or drive to the store to pick up antibiotics because it hurts so much to open your eyes. Therefore, it really helps to be able to cure it with essential oils that are already in your house.

Aside from those two instances when we were already sick, we use essential oils everyday to maintain health and prevent illness. I love adding lemon essential oil to my water for an immunity boost as well as a light detox. It really helps flush out your system. I have just ordered Wild Orange and Grapefruit which I will also add to my water when they arrive. Also, while I was using lavender oil on my brow bone to cure my pinkeye, I noticed that I was sleeping so well. I was getting uninterupted, deep, sleep and felt so refreshed in the morning, which I attribute to the lavender oil. Because of this, I have started putting a bit of lavender oil on my neck before bed for a better sleep.

Since I truely love these essential oils and believe they are so great for your family's heath, I have decided to become a wellness advocate with Doterra.  If you are looking to learn more about the benefits of essential oils, we host classes, workshops, webinars and we are available to answer any questions regarding essential oils. If you are looking to try some essential oils please contact me and I will guide you as to what are the best essential oils are to fit your needs.
