So Cooper is now 7 months. We have not had him officially weighed in the last month so I am not sure what he weighs or how long he is. He is still wearing mostly 6-9 month clothing but sometimes he wears 3-6 month T-shirts because those still fit him well.
The weather has been really nice the last few weeks so we have been able to get outside most days and go for a walk or to the park. He loves walking in his stroller and he loves the swing at the park. We even found a couple new parks in our neighbourhood. I still like wearing him in my baby carrier depending on what we are doing and how long we are walking. If we are travelling by car, I tend to opt for my carrier because my stroller is so big to pack in the car. However, if we are just walking around the neighbourhood, I tend to use the stroller because I usually stop at the store, jog, or just go for really long walks so its nice to have the stroller.
Major Milestones:
Standing - he loves to stand. He still needs support to stand on his own for a long time but he likes to hold onto toys or tables and stand up. He has actually fought sitting in favor of standing. He hasn't tried to take any steps yet though.
SLEEP - he is finally sleeping through the night. This is very new. He has only slept through the night 2-3 nights but he goes down for naps and to bed at night so easily now. Lately, he has been sleeping from about 7:30 pm to 6 am straight.
At our last doctor's appointment, Cooper's doctor asked us if he was sleeping through the night and I stated that he was still getting up twice per night to feed. He explained that at 6 months, he was old enough to start sleep training. I have never been in favor of the "Cry it Out" (CIO) method. I don't like to hear my baby cry for long. So his doctor recommended a book called "Sleep Sense". He explained that it is kind of "in between" in terms of the CIO method. I have to be honest. I have not found the time to read the book yet but I did look it up online. There is actually a little quiz on the authors website where you can enter in various factors such as the time you put your child to bed, the method you currently use (nursing, rocking etc.) and it will make recommendations on steps you can take to improve your child's sleeping habits.
After inputting the required information, it suggested that we stop rocking and singing him to sleep. It explained that by using sleep aids such as rocking or singing, this is causing your child to become dependent on these aids to fall back asleep when he wakes during the night. I love rocking and singing him to sleep but I thought this was worth a try. Now after bath we read a book and we will sing/rock 1 song so its still a part of our bedtime routine but we don't sing and rock him until he is fully asleep. We put him in his crib drowsy but fully awake and he has been falling asleep quite easily on his own. There has been times where he has fussed a bit but literally not more than a minute or two. No full blown screaming fits and now it only takes 2 minutes to put him to bed instead of a half hour or more. After trying this method, it only took 2 nights before he slept through the night. The first two nights he still woke up once so I went in to calm him down but now he is actually sleeping through the night. I really feel like this is going to be a game changer.
Teething: I feel like he has been teething lately. The other day he was so fussy which is totally not like him. However, he still hasn't had any teeth pop through. I am hoping he gets some soon. I think he will look so cute with a couple of teeth.
Drinking from a Sippy Cup: He started drinking water from a sippy cup. I mainly give it to him if I am drinking something because he loves to grab at my drinks. We only give him a bit of water because I don't want him to fill up on water and not drink enough milk...he looks too cute drinking out of his cup though.
Here are some pictures over the last month...
